Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) laid into the Democratic Party, accusing its members of losing touch with reality and putting their own political agendas above the laws that keep our country from spiraling into chaos. The Texan firebrand’s comments come hot on the heels of a New York Supreme Court ruling that socked former President Donald Trump with a whopping $364 million in penalties over a shady business deal. Cruz didn’t mince words, railing against what he sees as a clear case of political persecution, with the justice system targeting Trump like a prize pumpkin at a county fair ahead of the 2024 election.

“This is downright scary, folks. The Democrats have gone off the deep end, and they’re so fixated on playing politics that they’re willing to toss the rule of law out the window,” Cruz fumed to Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures. “They’ve turned the Department of Justice into their own personal wrecking ball, just to cling onto their grasp of power.”
The court decision also slapped Trump with a three-year ban from holding any leadership position in a New York-based business, and his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, were each hit with multi-million-dollar fines and a two-year New York business ban. Cruz blasted the ruling as a travesty and accused the judge, Arthur Engoron, of wearing his Democratic Party membership on his sleeve. According to Cruz, the entire case is nothing but a grand, orchestrated scheme to tear Trump down and keep him from running for office again.
“What’s happening here is an all-out effort to obliterate Donald Trump and, mark my words, it’s an attack on our very democracy, aimed at shutting out voters who still support him in future elections,” Cruz warned.
With the Cruz missile soaring through the political air, President Trump didn’t hold back either, tearing into Judge Engoron for his “dishonest and fraudulent” verdict and declaring New York Attorney General Letitia James the ringleader of this “phony baloney” case. Trump did this while revving up a Michigan crowd, clearly unfazed by the legal storm clouds gathering above him. Meanwhile, the early primary states of South Carolina and Michigan are preparing to play their parts in the ongoing political soap opera, with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley eagerly waiting in the wings as a potential Republican challenger to Trump in 2024.
