A widow of a hero who perished in the 9/11 attacks recently took some well-deserved shots at President Joe Biden for what she deemed a “flippant remark” concerning the solemn events meant to honor the thousands of victims from that tragic day in 2001. In a spectacular misstep, Biden remarked on an upcoming event by saying, “Tomorrow, I’m doing 9/11,” while casually listing his schedule. One can almost hear the collective gasp from patriots across the nation.
The widow, Joanne Barbara, whose husband was an Assistant Chief in the New York Fire Department, did not hold back her disdain during her speech at the 23rd anniversary commemoration. It’s clarified that Biden’s lack of sensitivity was brought into sharp focus when he decided to casually toss out the phrase “doing 9/11” as if he were talking about attending a county fair. What’s next? Is he planning to “do” Thanksgiving, too? Mumble trickle-down economics while carving the turkey?

Joanne Barbara expressed her outrage at other issues at hand, namely the U.S. government’s ludicrous idea to offer potential plea deals to terrorists connected to the 9/11 attacks. It must be nice to be in the White House, sipping your latte and planning birthday parties, while the families of fallen heroes are left in the dust, reliving their grief every single day. Barbara pointed out that it has been 23 years since the attack, and the families of the victims “deserve justice and accountability.” When Joe Biden’s comments seem flippant and tone-deaf compared to this heartfelt plea, one has to question which planet he’s residing on.
With social media being what it is, it didn’t take long for clips of Biden’s comments to go viral, proving once again that the man stumbles into more controversies than a toddler in a candy store. Reactions ranged from shock to outright disbelief, as many took to platforms like X to voice their incredulity over the President’s choice of words. The comments effectively reduced a soul-crushing day of remembrance to some sort of checkbox on his agenda. Does anyone in the White House have a handler keeping tabs on the things this guy says?
In the midst of this cacophony of reminders that it is OK to feel. At the same time, Joe seems to be examining the pretty flowers on the way to the memorial, and the presence of former President Donald Trump is notable. Trump, flanked by prominent Republicans, appeared attentive while Biden’s blunder loomed large over the ceremony. Will this ridiculousness ever end? One can only hope his speechwriters do their homework before the next anniversary rolls around. In the meantime, Joanne Barbara and countless others still fight for justice, hoping someone in the administration starts “doing” the right thing.
