Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known for her far-left views, has vowed to impeach the six conservative Supreme Court justices who recently ruled that former presidents have immunity from prosecution for their official acts while in office. The decision, with a majority of 6-3, effectively means that certain charges against former President Donald Trump related to events like the January 6 Capitol breach may now be dismissed.
In response to the ruling, Ocasio-Cortez expressed outrage, calling it a “corruption crisis” and accusing the Supreme Court of undermining American democracy. She declared her intent to file articles of impeachment once Congress reconvenes after the July 4th holiday.
The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control.
Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture.
I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.

However, it is unlikely that Ocasio-Cortez’s impeachment motion will gain traction in the Democrat-controlled House, given their slim majority. Even House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries voiced dissent against the ruling, suggesting that his caucus would explore ways to address it.
On the other hand, former President Trump hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for the constitution and democracy on his social media platform, Truth Social. The ruling allows Trump to potentially have charges from the January 6 incident dropped, although some other legal challenges at the state level remain.
Despite the outcry from Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez and Jeffries, the Supreme Court’s ruling does not grant any president unlimited power, as it specifically pertains to actions taken during their time in office. The Democrats’ narrative of Trump becoming a unchecked monarch is a gross exaggeration of the ruling’s implications.
