A federal appeals court has stepped out of the shadows and decided to let the Justice Department proceed with the release of special counsel Jack Smith’s report concerning President-elect Donald Trump and his supposed shenanigans to overturn the 2020 election results. As if anyone’s surprised that the legal circus continues to play out like a bad reality show, the former president’s team is doing everything they can to block this report, including a strong appeal to the Supreme Court. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has effectively tossed Trump’s efforts out the window, allowing the report to move forward, though they left a brief window open for a three-day injunction initiated by Judge Aileen Cannon. Cannon, in a rare moment of sanity, provided Trump’s legal team some breathing room, giving them time to rally and push for an additional stay. Unsurprisingly, this gives Trump a shot at delaying the report’s release until after both Smith and Attorney General Merrick Garland exit the stage, right before Trump, once again, takes the reins of power on January 20th.

Garland, however, has shown little intent to entertain the thought of releasing the portion of the report related to the dreaded classified documents case. This classic move raises eyebrows, as it suggests that the Justice Department might be hiding something. Why would they keep a lid on certain parts unless there are truly embarrassing secrets at stake? It appears the “just trust us” meme remains alive and well in the Biden administration’s approach to transparency.
Amidst this legal wrestling match, speculation runs rampant about the motivations behind targeting Trump in the first place. With allegations flying left and right, one must wonder if there’s any factual basis to these attempts at undermining the former president. The timing of these revelations makes it clear that the current administration, along with certain factions in the legal establishment, continues to play a high-stakes game aimed squarely at discrediting and hampering Trump’s comeback.
