Bald Eagle Officially Recognized as US National Bird by Biden

Forget about the giant panda or the cute koala, the true feathered champion of the United States has finally received the recognition it deserves. The bald eagle, long a symbol of American strength and freedom, has officially been designated as the country’s national bird thanks to legislation signed into law by President Joe Biden. It’s about time someone put this winged warrior in its rightful place among the stars and stripes of American symbols.

This legislation, which corrected an oversight that had gone unnoticed for decades, finally put an end to the confusion over the bald eagle’s status. It’s as if Congress forgot to RSVP to their own party—only to realize that the bald eagle had been flying around in the background, proudly serving as the national emblem since 1782. During all that time, it adorned the Great Seal, military insignia, and even U.S. currency while the lawmakers failed to officially acknowledge it as the national bird. It’s a classic example of government inefficiency; they can declare a bird a national emblem, but the title of “national bird” somehow slipped through the cracks.

Perhaps the most amusing aspect of this is that people across the country have already assumed the bald eagle was the national bird. It’s not just a symbol; it’s practically woven into the fabric of American identity. This majestic avian, recognizable by its striking white head and yellow beak, has soared in the hearts of patriots everywhere from sports teams to Fourth of July celebrations. Yet, it took more than two centuries for Congress to get the memo.

With the eagle’s official status now secured, many are left to wonder what other astonishing breakthroughs could be in the pipeline. Will Congress next declare apple pie the official dessert or the flag the official piece of cloth? With all the urgency that usually accompanies lawmakers, it might be a while before they get around to it. But at least the bald eagle can now fly proudly under the banner of being the national bird—finally giving it the honor it has held since the founding of the nation.

This legislative victory marks a feather in the cap of those who have been advocating for the eagle’s rightful recognition. One can almost imagine the eagle’s triumphant cry echoing across the American countryside, celebrating its newfound title. With any luck, this acknowledgment will inspire further patriotic fervor and remind citizens of the greatness this symbol represents. After all, it’s not just about the honor; it’s about reinforcing what America stands for—resilience, strength, and of course, a fondness for our avian friends.
