Since Joe Biden took office, the number of people entering the United States illegally at the southern border has surpassed the population of Arizona. Arizona is the 14th most populous state in the country, with just over 7.4 million people. To put it in perspective, Maricopa County, which encompasses the Phoenix metropolitan area, is the fourth largest county in the United States and is home to around 4.4 million people.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the total number of encounters with illegal immigrants at the southwest border from 2021 to 2024 is a staggering 7,374,721. However, it’s important to note that this figure includes the months of October, November, and December 2020, when former President Donald Trump was still in office. During those months, 218,036 people were apprehended. So when you subtract that number from the total encounters, you have 7,156,685, which is still greater than Arizona’s population.
But here’s where it gets even worse. In addition to those apprehended, there have also been over 1.7 million “gotaways” at the border since Biden became president. This means that the total number of illegal crossings is close to 8.9 million, which far exceeds the population of Arizona. In fact, a Twitter account called the Missouri Freedom Caucus X pointed out that the total crossings are greater than the populations of Arizona and 37 other states combined!
At this rate, if there is no change in policy, it won’t be long before the number of illegal entries exceeds the combined populations of Arizona and neighboring New Mexico. It seems that President Biden’s border policies are causing more harm than good. Kari Lake, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Arizona, voiced her concern about the situation, stating that Biden and his enablers have allowed 8.5 million illegal immigrants to invade our country. Lake, who is running against leading Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego, vowed to assist Donald Trump in carrying out the largest repatriation campaign in history once she is in the United States Senate.
It’s clear that something needs to be done about this crisis at the southern border. Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs of Arizona acknowledged the frustration with the Biden administration’s handling of the situation. However, she emphasized that Texas’ approach is not the answer for Arizona. The numbers speak for themselves, and it’s time for action.
