Biden-AMLO Election Ploy: Border Fix or Fleeting Farce?

In a groundbreaking turn of events, Mexico and the United States are both getting ready for presidential elections in the same year for the first time in more than 20 years. Now, hold on to your cowboy hats, folks, because the Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, might be tightening up on illegal immigration to snag a win for both U.S. President Joe Biden and his own Morena political party, rather than actually securing the border.

The sneaky tactic seems to be a temporary stop in the flood of migrants, all to make sure the Democrats in the U.S. and AMLO’s Morena party’s candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, can waltz into victory later this year. But what does this mean for border security in the long run? With both Sheinbaum and Biden potentially winning in 2024, the dangerous Mexican cartels, who profit from the weak security in both Mexico and the United States, could be popping the champagne if this plan goes through.

Sheinbaum seems to be following in AMLO’s footsteps when it comes to dealing with these violent cartels, opting for “hugs, not bullets,” which could mean bad news for the battle against drug trafficking into the U.S. Combine that with Biden’s track record on immigration and, well, yikes.

According to sources within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the number of apprehensions along the Texas border took a nosedive by 60 percent between December and February. And what’s the deal with all these secretive meetings between AMLO and Biden in December, followed by some more chit-chats with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas? It’s all very hush-hush, but it seems to have led to a sudden decrease in migrant crossings along the Texas-Mexico border.

But wait, there’s more! The Biden administration has been fast-tracking asylum cases, making sure those fresh off the boat get sent packing from the United States in a flash, which sounds surprisingly Trump-like, doesn’t it? The sudden change in approach seems like a way to shift focus away from the border crisis just in time for the elections, especially with a Harvard CAPS-Harris poll showing immigration as the top concern for most likely voters.

On top of all that, more than 12 million folks in the U.S. are eligible to vote in Mexico’s presidential election by mail. AMLO’s government is practically handing out invitations for these expats to cast their votes, and we all know who they’ll be rooting for.

The first lady, er, rather, the first woman to possibly take the reins in Mexico, Sheinbaum, may just make history if she secures that win in June. But let’s not break out the confetti just yet – remember, it only takes a plurality of votes to become president in Mexico, and the protests against AMLO’s government are causing quite a stir.

So, will this whole plan to tighten up on illegal migration do the trick for the Democrats and the Morena party, or will it all be for naught? With an overwhelming majority of Americans giving Biden’s immigration record two thumbs down, it’s anyone’s guess how this election season will pan out.

Randy Clark, a U.S. Border Patrol veteran, has been keeping a close eye on all this action. While we can’t ask him firsthand what his thoughts are, you can catch his updates on Twitter to stay in the loop.
