He has confidence in Israel's commitment to adhere to the rules of war and minimize harm to innocent civilians, and he emphasized that democratic countries like Israel follow higher standards, ensuring access to necessities for Palestinians in Gaza.
Regarding the argument of Israel's occupation of Gaza, President Biden clarified that while Israel formally withdrew from the territory in 2005, the belief that Israel controls the lives of Palestinians is prevalent among Palestinian nationalists. He called for a distinction between Hamas and innocent Palestinians manipulated and used as human shields by the terrorist group.
President Biden described Hamas as a group engaged in barbarism comparable to the Holocaust and emphasized Israel's moral obligation to respond. He strongly denounced Hamas, referring to them as cowards who hide behind innocent civilians while perpetuating terror. He also urged other forces, such as Iran-backed Hezbollah, to refrain from further escalating the conflict, advocating for peace and stability.
