President Joe Biden, in his typical manner of undermining those around him, reportedly made a remark to newly appointed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that did not resonate well. Allegedly, Biden tried to reassure Jean-Pierre by stating that White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby would be there to assist her. However, let's be frank, having Kirby constantly monitoring her every move is hardly comforting.
It is widely known that tensions have been escalating between Kirby and Jean-Pierre as they share the podium more frequently. Kirby appears to be hogging the limelight and fielding more questions during briefings, leaving Jean-Pierre in his shadow. The president seems to favor Kirby's presence and has even requested his company on various trips.

Kirby, not one to shy away from ambition, has expressed his desire to become the press secretary himself. Clearly, he is not satisfied with being a mere spokesperson. On the other hand, Jean-Pierre has displayed her loyalty by stating that she would remain in her position until the end of the administration if the president wishes. Talk about dedication!
But let's return to Biden's comment. "You'll have an admiral looking over your shoulder." What a way to instill confidence, Mr. President! It's no wonder the remark fell flat. Who wants to be constantly scrutinized and overshadowed by someone else? Jean-Pierre deserves the trust and support of the president, not a constant reminder that she has a watchdog breathing down her neck.
Naturally, the White House spokesperson has denied that such an interaction ever occurred. However, we all know that the truth is often conveniently brushed aside in this administration. Perhaps it is time for Biden to take a step back and allow Jean-Pierre to shine. After all, a little trust and encouragement can go a long way.
