In a passionate press conference at the Capitol, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy called out the Biden administration and House Democrats for their “appeasement” stance towards Hamas and their failure to address antisemitism within their own party. McCarthy, a California Republican, wasted no time in challenging President Biden’s priorities, stating that climate change is not the top threat to America, but rather terrorism and having an open border.

McCarthy went on to criticize the Biden administration for allowing a dangerous build-up of power among “the axis of evil,” which he identified as Iran, Russia, and China. Instead of focusing on the Green New Deal, McCarthy argued that Biden should prioritize protecting the American people.
To address these concerns, McCarthy laid out a five-point plan for President Biden. First, he called for the rescue of American hostages abducted by Hamas. Second, he urged the extradition of the leader of Hamas. Next, McCarthy called for a confrontation with Iran, the closing of the southern border, and finally, a direct confrontation of antisemitism within the Democratic Party.
McCarthy pointed out that appeasing Iran by allowing them to produce more oil only empowers them, and paying ransoms for American hostages weakens the United States on the world stage. His remarks come in the wake of a brutal surprise attack by Hamas on Israel, where over 1,200 Israelis were killed and dozens of Israelis were taken hostage. Tragically, at least nine Americans also lost their lives in the attack. Though unconfirmed, there are reports that some Americans may have been taken hostage as part of this well-coordinated terrorist operation.
In addition to his critique of the Biden administration, McCarthy also called out House Democratic leaders for failing to condemn members of their own party who make antisemitic comments. He expressed his concern about allowing elected representatives to speak antisemitism without consequences, citing an incident where a member attempted to reserve a building in celebration of antisemitism. McCarthy himself had previously stopped Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat, from hosting a pro-Palestinian event on the House side of the Capitol complex.
Even Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, was not exempt from McCarthy’s criticism. He reminded the room that he had removed her from the Foreign Affairs Committee in the past for making antisemitic statements, and called on the leadership of the Democratic Party to take action against such remarks. McCarthy concluded his speech with a plea to fight against antisemitism in the United States.
It is clear that McCarthy wants to hold the Biden administration and House Democrats accountable for their alleged appeasement of Hamas and failure to address antisemitism within their party. The former House Speaker’s impassioned speech reflects his ardent conservative beliefs, as he firmly stands up for the American people and their security.
