In what seems like a rookie move, Joe Biden decided to skip a crucial interview with CBS News before the big Super Bowl LVIII. This doesn’t seem like a smart move for someone who just got some heat from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on mishandling classified information. Apparently, he got off without any charges, but it was noted that he wasn’t all there in the brain department, and therefore too old to be charged. Ouch!
Now, if Biden really wants to prove to everyone that he’s not over the hill, hiding from the media is definitely not the way to do it. Even one of his own Democratic Party strategists, James Carville, pointed out that skipping out on an interview during the Super Bowl, which draws in a massive audience, makes it look like Biden’s own staff doesn’t have much faith in his abilities.
And when Biden did finally show his face at a press conference at the White House, it was a total disaster. Sure, it’s important to show voters that he’s still got some spunk left in him, but when he starts tripping over his words and mixing up world leaders, it’s clear that he’s not portraying the image of someone with a sharp mind.
CBS News was apparently one of the few networks that Biden still had on his good side, so it’s even more telling that his own aides couldn’t trust him to handle an interview with them. It’s a missed opportunity for Biden to defend himself and prove that he’s mentally fit to lead the country. But hey, maybe he’s just not up for the challenge. Oh well, better luck next time, Mr. President!
