Biden Joins Voting Queue in Delaware Amid Tense Election Countdown

It seems even President Joe Biden, the man who’s allegedly running the country, had to face the great American tradition of waiting in line to vote. On a fine Monday morning in New Castle, Delaware, Biden found himself among fellow voters, including a bold supporter sporting a red hat emblazoned with a message that could send the left into an apoplectic fit. It appears that voting wasn’t exactly the top priority for the 81-year-old president, who has conveniently opted out of the 2024 race after being pressured by his own party. Instead, the spotlight is on Vice President Kamala Harris, who may or may not remember how to campaign without a lengthy instruction manual.

After munching on breakfast with Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, the presumed contender to fill the Senate seat vacated by Tom Carper, Biden decided it was a good day to join the ranks of early voters. His wait, which clocked in just under 40 minutes, could have easily been a solid opportunity for a round of “Would You Rather” with the people around him, with the notable absence of a public appearance by his own vice president, who must have had a scheduled appointment with her hairdresser.

In a bold move reminiscent of political theater, Biden chose to help a woman in a wheelchair along the ramp into the polling station, which could easily be mistaken for an attempt to gain brownie points or, perhaps, to remind the American public that he still has some liberal heart left in him under those layers of liberal bureaucracy. Sadly, no amount of wheel-pushing or charming banter is likely to mask the fact that Harris has somewhat quietly sought to create a distinction between herself and Biden as if his presidency were an old pair of shoes that she no longer wants to be seen in.

With less than a week to go before Election Day, the polling average from RealClearPolitics shows Trump and Harris locked in a neck-and-neck race, an outcome that is hardly surprising given Harris’s attempts to distance herself from Biden’s notorious inflation and loss of credibility. As she solicits the help of the Obamas to pump some much-needed star power into her campaign, one cannot help but wonder if it’s an indication of weakness rather than strength. After all, if you’re the candidate of change, do you really need to drag along the ghosts of past administrations?

While reporters noted the prevalence of Harris-Walz campaign signage outside the polling station, it was hard to ignore the presence of Trump-Vance signs peppered throughout. One particularly memorable individual in line flaunted a red hat that read a message certain to make any progressive faint: “Elect That Motherf***er Again.” Perhaps this was a reminder that not everyone is ready to hand over their wallets and freedom for yet another round of Biden-flavored leadership.

In an unfortunate attempt to score cheap political points, Biden took a swing at Trump, criticizing a rally that aired a comic’s disparaging remarks about Puerto Rico. But judging by the reactions to Biden’s tenure, his attempts to cast shade on his predecessor reek of desperation. As the election approaches and Biden’s time in office winds down, one thing remains painfully clear—while the voting lines may be long, the path to restoring common sense and fiscal responsibility seems even longer.
