President Biden’s latest act of familial solidarity has the political world spinning like a top. Recently, the president announced he would be granting a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, whose legal troubles reached astounding heights in 2024, courtesy of the Special Counsel’s open secret party. After all, who better to pull strings in times of trouble than a sitting president?
In a statement that might go down in history as the ultimate textbook example of “don’t bother reading the room,” Biden insisted that Hunter had been “selectively and unfairly prosecuted.” One can only wonder if he accidentally forgot to glance at how often Hunter’s past antics have made headlines—after all, few criminals get their legal misadventures chronicled as if they were Oscar contenders. President Biden asserted that without some truly aggravating circumstances—none of which seemed to adhere to the Biden family ethos—Hunter was being unjustly hammered by the justice system.

One could imagine Biden at the White House resuming his desk job harder than an over-caffeinated intern trying to rewrite history. He exclaims that “no reasonable person” can conclude otherwise than that his son is facing repercussions simply for sharing the last name Biden. To the discerning conservative eye, this seems to echo an age-old refrain: the “it’s not what you did, it’s who you are” defense. Certainly, the public must be yearning for a good coddling story, especially with dad at the helm.
Biden revealed that those pesky political opponents, lurking in the shadows, were responsible for the metal shackles his son found himself in—not those infamous photos or the questionable business dealings that seem to follow Hunter like a shadow during sundown. A collapse of what was supposed to be a smooth plea deal, celebrated only in the Biden household, was attributed to these “instigators.” Imagine the irony of the man promising to keep his hands out of the cookie jar now slathering his own fingerprints all over that same jar.
What’s richer than this tale of familial rescue is that Hunter’s pardon appears to be more shocking than a plot twist in a reality TV show. Democrats have historically believed that the “rule of law” means something until the law comes knocking on their own doors. Biden’s decision to pardon his son shows a classic case of “We’re above this.” Meanwhile, it’s akin to those politicians who preach about climate change while flying private jets; it’s just the latest installment in the political soap opera that questions not just legality, but also credibility.
With Biden’s about-face after previous stern denials of considering a pardon, one has to wonder if the real audience for the president’s statements is even the American voter or just a screenwriter looking for material. The conclusion of this family saga makes liberal art seem nearly mundane with its jaw-dropping ability to surprise even seasoned critics of the political scene. It surely raises the question: when will the drama end, or will it just go on until the Biden family decides to take another bow?
