Biden Planned Response to Trump Verdict Raises Questions of Fairness

The Biden administration faced questions on Tuesday about its reported plans to comment from the White House on any verdict in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not directly address the Politico report about Mr. Biden addressing Mr. Trump’s hush money case from the White House when the verdict is delivered, stating that she would not comment on an ongoing case involving a potential 2024 candidate.

Reports suggest that the Biden team aims to present Mr. Biden’s statement on the verdict as non-political. If the former president is convicted, the Biden team plans to argue that Mr. Trump is unfit for office, which could potentially impact the 2024 election. This news comes as the Biden campaign deployed actor Robert De Niro and former Jan. 6 Capitol police officers to Manhattan to emphasize Mr. Trump’s legal troubles and state that he is unfit for office. The intensified attack from the Biden campaign coincided with the conclusion of the trial.

Mr. Trump faces charges related to allegedly concealing hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. A verdict in the hush money trial could be announced as soon as this week. The potential conclusion of the trial aligns with the start of a more aggressive Biden campaign as the election approaches.

The Biden administration’s handling of the potential comment from the White House, the deployment of public figures and law enforcement personnel to highlight Mr. Trump’s legal situation, and the potential implications for the 2024 election underlie the ongoing political dynamics between the Biden administration and the former president.
