Republican lawmakers and conservative commentators are criticizing President Joe Biden for using the recent terrorist attack in Israel as a way to push for aid to Ukraine. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) strongly condemned Biden’s tactics, saying, “What Biden is doing is disgusting. He’s using dead children in Israel to sell his disastrous Ukraine policy to skeptical Americans.” Vance stressed that Israel and Ukraine are separate countries with different issues, and using one to leverage aid for the other is offensive.
During his remarks on the Hamas attacks, Biden quickly turned the conversation to the Ukraine-Russia war and attempted to draw parallels between the two conflicts. He compared Russian President Vladimir Putin to Hamas, stating that both leaders intend to completely annihilate neighboring democracies. Biden announced that he would be submitting a budget request to Congress for aid to both Israel and Ukraine.
Republican lawmakers such as Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) joined Vance in criticizing Biden’s approach. Blackburn took issue with Biden’s attempt to connect appropriations for both Israel and Ukraine in one package, while Hunt stated that funding the proxy war in Ukraine should be stopped. Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) also emphasized that the attacks in Israel and the Russian-Ukraine conflict are separate issues and should be addressed separately through two different votes.

Conservative commentator Greg Price of the State Freedom Caucus Network harshly criticized Biden, pointing out that the president spoke more about giving money to Ukraine than addressing the situation in Israel. Price also called out Biden for equating anti-Semitism to Islamophobia, dismissing the fact that rallies promoting anti-Semitism have occurred in various American cities and college campuses.
Arizona Republican senate candidate Kari Lake also voiced her disagreement with Biden’s focus on Ukraine, calling it “wrong, dangerous, and having nothing to do with the crisis on our southern border” and the need to support Israel immediately. Gerry Callahan, a former Boston sports radio host, accused Biden of hiding the fact that Americans are being held hostage in Gaza and criticized him for prioritizing an unwinnable war in Ukraine over potential world war implications.
Overall, these conservative voices have condemned Biden for exploiting the Israel-Gaza conflict to further his agenda with Ukraine, emphasizing the need to address each issue separately and refocus attention on immediate concerns like the crisis at the southern border and the safety of American citizens abroad.
