Biden Steps Down to Avoid Political Distraction for Democrats

President Joe Biden recently claimed that if he had remained on the Democratic ticket for the upcoming presidential election, it would have been an enormous distraction for his congressional colleagues. After announcing he was stepping away from the race, Biden sat down with CBS to discuss his grand decision, babbling just enough to give anyone a headache understanding it all.

He opined that polls were showing a close contest—fitting for a party that’s struggling more than a deer caught in headlights during hunting season. Biden implied that Democrats were genuinely concerned for their political skin, fearing that his continued candidacy would overshadow their races. Apparently, he believes his mere presence would have the media chasing after every nonsensical quip he might make instead of focusing on actual issues like the economy or border security.

In Biden’s world, stepping down was a noble act of self-sacrifice, all to save the Democrats from what he described as “a real distraction.” One must wonder how much of a distraction it would have been when he frequently forgets his talking points. It seems Joe couldn’t bear the thought of his Democratic buddies getting grilled about why they’re standing behind a candidate who sometimes sounds like he’s lost a few marbles.

Why did he throw in the towel? Well, aside from wanting to spare his party the embarrassment of public scrutiny over his debate train wrecks, he cited the lofty goal of “maintaining this democracy” and, of course, the ever-present need to defeat former President Donald Trump come November— a task Democrats seem increasingly desperate to achieve. With Biden’s track record of extensive gaffes, one wonders if he’s more a hindrance than a help in that lofty ambition.

Since his exit from the race, Biden has thrown his enthusiastic endorsement behind Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. With this power duo now in the spotlight, Democrats are rallying like never before—but perhaps that’s just a polite way of saying they’re clinging desperately to any chance of winning. In a world where Biden can step aside without much consequence, the question remains: are the Democrats merely trading in one distraction for another?
