Biden White House Despair as Staff Eye Exits and Biden Ponders Legacy

All is not well in the Biden White House as the curtains draw shut on a presidency that many would rather forget. Reports indicate that the atmosphere at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue resembles a funeral rather than the seat of democracy, with staffers quietly contemplating their exit strategies. It’s hard to be upbeat when the individual at the helm is left pondering what might have been while eyeing a list of potential pardons that would make even Santa Claus raise an eyebrow.

In a curious twist, Biden claims he could have won re-election had he not dropped out, a sentiment not echoed by many of his staff or the broader Democratic establishment. The general consensus leans toward the belief that had he stuck to his guns as the nominee, the electoral consequences would have been even more catastrophic. Perhaps he’s channeling optimism from his days as Vice President, but this time the delusion runs deeper than usual; the Democrats were likely to be wiped off the electoral map if Biden had remained in the race.

The morale within the White House could use a significant boost, as aides have described the climate in recent times using descriptors like “draining” and “depressing.” Well, at least they’re being honest. Meanwhile, the internal chatter suggests that many of these staffers have been quietly hunting for new gigs since November, which raises the question: when the going gets tough, do Democrats get going—straight out the door?

Joe Kiani, a Democratic donor and Biden ally, expressed that Biden genuinely believed he could trounce Trump again. In a classic display of denial, he admitted to worrying about Trump’s potential triumph. The irony is rich; Republicans are almost grateful for the Biden that was, fearing the fervor with which they’d have to face off against him again. But alas—emotionally charged delusions aside—Kamala’s supporters seem deep in their own denial, privately shuffling around the idea that had Biden exited the race a tad sooner, she might’ve had a fighting chance. This, despite the fact that Trump systematically dismantled Democrats across every battleground state while winning the popular vote by more than two million.

While Biden prepares to exit the political stage, his focus shifts to creating a legacy with the planned construction of a presidential library in Delaware. This leads one to ponder how he intends to justify the notorious pardons for criminals along with more questionable decisions like appointing Merrick Garland as attorney general. It would seem that rather than taking down political rivals, the AG was apparently focused on watering down justice so much that even a guilty verdict seems like an uphill battle.

Despite the gloomy outlook, Biden continues to put on a brave face. He has been publicly supportive of Kamala Harris and maintains that they’re dedicated to “delivering results for American families.” It’s commendable, but perhaps a more fitting narrative would focus on the real story that will emerge; the bubbling animosity between him and Kamala is bound to be chronicled in the tell-all books that will inevitably follow this administration.

Biden’s presidency may well be culminating in a fizzling anticlimax rather than a grand finale. Years of political maneuvering have led to a finale marked by division and disappointment, offering a textbook example of what not to do for future generations. In the end, it’s hard to argue that Biden’s era in politics is leaving behind anything but a cautionary tale, serving as a reminder of the hazards of political hubris and a painful reckoning for the Democrats as they reflect on their fractured identity as the curtain falls.
