In a stunning display of wasteful spending, the Biden administration has funneled billions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars into the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). A newly released report from Open the Books reveals that the administration has lavishly spent $8.925 billion in fiscal year 2022 and an outrageous $10.928 billion in fiscal year 2023 on the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at ORR. It’s incredible to think of all the more productive ways that money could have been used, like funding infrastructure improvements or reducing the national debt.

The purpose of these massive expenditures is supposedly to accommodate, transport, and provide various services to migrants, including medical care and loans. But what these figures fail to account for is the utter mismanagement and mishandling of these cases by the Biden administration. Unaccompanied migrant children have been released to poorly vetted sponsors, where they are forced into child labor. It’s a damning indictment of the incompetence and lack of oversight within ORR.
The border crisis under the Biden administration has reached unprecedented levels, with over 2.2 million encounters of illegal migrants recorded in fiscal year 2022 and a staggering 2 million in fiscal year 2023, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This influx of illegal immigration is placing immense strain on our resources and endangering national security. It’s clear that the Biden administration’s weak immigration policies and refusal to prioritize border security are directly responsible for this crisis.
Not only has the administration failed to effectively handle the surge of illegal immigrants, but it has also lost contact with a shocking 85,000 unaccompanied migrant children. These vulnerable children are left abandoned and at risk, while the Biden administration fecklessly throws billions of dollars at a broken system. The Open the Books report reveals that an additional $5.5 billion has been squandered in fiscal years 2022 and 2023 on these unaccompanied migrant children. This is a disgraceful misuse of taxpayer funds that could have been better utilized to address the urgent needs of American citizens.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement, with its ever-expanding mission, is becoming a bottomless pit of wasteful spending. Far-left members of Congress are only too eager to support this reckless expansion, perpetuating the cycle of people seeking handouts for everything from travel to healthcare to loans. This unchecked spending spree is having ripple effects throughout the country, straining hospitals, schools, and shelters. It’s time to put an end to this financial self-harm and refocus ORR on its original mission of assisting true refugees.
The Department of Labor has even launched an investigation into the exploitation of migrant children released by HHS. This is a shocking revelation that underscores the complete disregard for the well-being of these vulnerable individuals. It is the moral obligation of every American to protect children from exploitation and abuse, but the Biden administration seems to have failed spectacularly in fulfilling this duty.
Overall, the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis has been nothing short of a disaster. The House Homeland Security Committee has rightly initiated impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his abysmal management of the surge at the southern border. It’s high time that we hold this administration accountable for its failures and demand responsible and effective border policies that prioritize American citizens and national security.
