Biden’s FDA Cigarette Ban Will Boost Black Market Crime Warn Experts

In a move reminiscent of Prohibition, the Biden administration’s Food and Drug Administration is reportedly planning to eliminate traditional cigarettes as we know them, just as the clock ticks down on their time in office. The ruling would effectively ban all cigarettes currently sold in the United States in favor of lower-nicotine options. This policy is poised to hand a windfall to criminals and cartels, who are undoubtedly preparing to profit from the ban with a lucrative black market.

The rationale behind this ill-conceived regulation is supposedly to reduce nicotine addiction. However, it seems the administration has overlooked some key historical lessons. The black market for tobacco will expand, filling the void created by the ban. Criminal organizations, including the infamous Mexican cartels, are likely celebrating this government giveaway, eagerly anticipating a new revenue stream. Rather than extinguishing smoking, this measure may only fuel violence and crime as illicit supply chains are developed to meet the demands of nicotine addicts.

While the proposal may not be finalized yet, the FDA’s announcement highlights an alarming trend of government overreach. The heavy-handedness of this rule shows a startling disregard for the realities of consumer choice and personal freedom. Those who wish to smoke will find a way, regardless of the regulations put in place. History is riddled with examples of the unintended consequences that arise from such well-meaning, yet misguided, attempts at social engineering.

The administration’s failure to learn from the past is astonishing. Attempts to restrict products have historically resulted in thriving black markets. Just look at the legacy of Prohibition, where the banning of alcohol gave rise to organized crime and widespread lawlessness. Examining state-level liquor laws can show similar results; residents often cross state lines to stockpile their preferred beverages. Now, the federal government is proposing a sweeping regulation that will only escalate this issue on a national scale.

It appears the Biden administration has outdone itself with this latest proposal. One has to wonder if they even consulted anyone who comprehends the consequences of their actions. As this plan inches forward, it remains to be seen whether a new administration will step in to address the impending chaos that awaits. Unfortunately, until such changes occur, the prospect of invigorated organized crime in America looms larger than ever.
