In a move that has many conservatives shaking their heads, President Joe Biden has tapped Stephanie Psaki for the position of global health security coordinator. If that last name sounds familiar, it’s because she is the sister of none other than former White House press secretary and current MSNBC host, Jen Psaki. It’s like keeping it all in the family over there at the White House!

Stephanie Psaki will be responsible for leading the government’s response to health crises on a global scale, such as pandemics, when they rear their ugly heads. The creation of this role came about after the government’s less-than-stellar handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The powers that be decided they needed a specific person to take the reins in such situations. The Washington Examiner confirmed the hire, which undoubtedly raised a few eyebrows among the conservative crowd.
According to the Washington Post, Stephanie Psaki is a “longtime global health expert,” having joined the federal health department’s global affairs office in March 2021, before making the leap to the White House in 2022 – the same year her sister bid the administration farewell. She will also maintain a role at the National Security Council, which is sure to set off some alarm bells for those on the right.
What’s really got those conservatives scratching their heads is the Psaki family’s involvement in some of the Biden administration’s more contentious decisions. Jen Psaki, in particular, made waves when she openly stated that the administration was keeping a close eye on what they deemed to be “problematic posts” about COVID-19 on Facebook. The mere suggestion of the government getting involved in censoring speech ruffled more than a few feathers on the right. A federal judge even ruled that the administration and social media giants had worked together to squash free speech, temporarily banning a slew of Biden officials from communicating with the tech companies. The case is even headed to the Supreme Court for further review.
However, not everyone is up in arms about the Psaki takeover. Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, who played a big role in creating the global health security coordinator position, is singing Stephanie Psaki’s praises, claiming she is the perfect fit for the job. He just can’t contain his excitement about the whole thing! But you can bet your bottom dollar that conservatives are going to keep a close eye on the Psaki sisters’ latest moves in this new gig.
