Biden’s Next Move: Will Mass Deportations Shock America?

In another episode of political theater, the nation finds itself embroiled in an ongoing debate about immigration. For some, it feels like watching the same episode of a sitcom over and over again, where few things change except the hairstyles. This time around, we have the SAVE Act standing center stage, a proposed law aimed at addressing the supposed avalanche of illegal immigrants reportedly hiding under every rock. Now, what the country needs, according to some folks, isn’t just a band-aid solution like the SAVE Act. No sir, what we need is to tackle the root problem and maybe even revisit the age-old idea of mass deportations. Just imagine a scenario where every illegal immigrant taps their heels together three times and magically disappears from the country. Life would be so simple, or at least that’s how the story goes.

There’s talk about how the floodgates were initially thrown open by previous administrations, leaving a chaotic mess to sort through. Apparently, the White House claims there’s been a decrease of about 3 million illegal immigrants since new management took over about 14 months ago. This seems to be a mix of self-deportation and a government-led drive to arrest and deport more people than ever. Sure, 3 million is quite the headcount, but there’s still an estimated whopping 11 million illegal aliens supposedly hiding in plain sight. Talk about a needle in a haystack!

Now, the commentary, folks, is if they could just get everybody on the same page, life could be much better. Republicans, it seems, have a bit of a foot-to-the-floor attitude about tackling this laundry list of issues. Heck, if they could only get their Senate and House counterparts to buckle down and push the SAVE Act across the finish line, then we’d really be getting somewhere. It’s a classic case of not enough cooks in the kitchen, with the Republicans needing to align fully to their ranks of 49 in the Senate to pass such measures.

Some insiders seem to think the Democrats have cornered the market on teamwork, voting as one undivided unit. Like a well-oiled machine, they always follow their leaders’ marching orders. In contrast, Republicans appear to have more of a herding cats problem. But, there’s a small glimmer of hope as there are more Republicans now than ever standing ready to fight the filibuster. This little batting average has nearly doubled from what it was a decade ago. Donald Trump gets credit for this transformation within the party, changing how things roll and turning the tide in a way.

This political wrestling match tells us two things: nothing gets done without a fight, and perhaps there’s a sweet spot between wishful thinking and practical solutions. The SAVE Act saga is another chapter in America’s political soap opera, filled with drama, promises, and the never-ending struggle for cohesive action. Until then, grab some popcorn, kick back, and enjoy the show because, in politics, anything is possible – except maybe finding that one-size-fits-all solution everyone’s waiting for!
