President Joe Biden’s recent address regarding the upheaval in Syria serves as a final attempt by a president desperate to sculpt an artificial legacy. In a world where reality tends to escape this administration, the speech illustrates an astonishing level of dishonesty about the geopolitical intricacies at play. It’s impossible not to chuckle at the gall he displayed while attempting to claim credit for developments that occurred in spite of, not because of, his administration’s actions.
Biden highlighted the failure of Russia, Hezbollah, and Iran to support Bashar al-Assad during this week’s dramatic events, asserting that these powers have grown weaker since he took office. It is evident that reality paints a far different picture. The Biden administration’s handling of Israel, especially during its robust counteractions against Hamas and Hezbollah, reflects poorly on its influence. Instead of bolstering allies, Biden’s administration has managed to alienate them, causing Israel to operate independently and without the usual lines of communication, all while Islamic proxies were engaged in acts of aggression.
Under Biden’s watch, the war in Ukraine has certainly drained Russian resources; however, it is ludicrous for anyone to suggest that this is a victory for Biden. Ukraine’s successful defense against Russian aggression has been achieved against the backdrop of limited U.S. support, especially pertaining to offensive weaponry. Both Ukraine and Israel now regard Washington with suspicion, taking care not to share operational plans that could be leaked. The Biden administration’s track record of dishonesty makes any claims of direct influence seem like a bad punchline rather than a seasoned evaluation.
The immediate collapse of the Assad regime was a consequence not of Biden’s foreign policy finesse but rather of external dynamics unfolding in the region. This scenario is indicative of what can happen when tyrants overreach and others recognize their increasing vulnerability. By laying out an ineffectual UN-driven plan for a new Syria, Biden echoes an approach that was abandoned in favor of more digressive strategies under Trump, who understood that attempting to reshape the Middle East into a series of democratic enclaves is akin to building castles in the air.
Joe Biden's Remarks on Syria Were Peak Biden: Dishonest and Delusionalhttps://t.co/K84gKb4G8E

A further layer of absurdity comes from Biden’s emphasis on collaboration with regional players to stabilize Syria going forward. Any semblance of trust in U.S. intentions has long since evaporated, as it lies in tatters alongside America’s reputation. The thought of working with Turkish interests, whose own ambitions are complicated at best, stands to highlight just how far removed this administration has become from the realities on the ground.
The obstinate optimism peppered throughout Biden’s remarks about a new Syria emerging from the ashes of dictatorship reeks of delusion. At best, his delusions of grandeur function as a smokescreen for failures that will be scrutinized for years to come. If a new tyrant were to emerge post-Assad, it wouldn’t be just a repetition of history; it would be an indictment of an administration that appears out of touch with the true nature of Middle Eastern conflicts. With the Biden administration’s track record, one wonders how America would have remained intact under another four years of such misguided leadership.
