In yet another astonishing display of self-absorption, President Joe Biden turned the tragic stories of hurricane survivors into an opportunity for a melodramatic monologue about his own life. While he visited victims who had lost nearly everything, Biden has managed to concoct a sob story about a fire that, according to multiple sources, is about as exaggerated as his approval ratings.
During the speech, the 81-year-old commander-in-chief waxed poetic about having been displaced for “seven months” due to a fire in his home. The reality, however, is a different story. The so-called “devastating” fire was actually contained in the kitchen and was doused within a mere 20 minutes. Yet, somehow, Biden has managed to transform that brief inconvenience into a harrowing tale of survival that rivals the trials of the hurricane victims in front of him. His ‘experience’ of losing a home falls woefully short, resembling more of a kitchen renovation than a true tragedy.
Biden tells hurricane victims he knows "from experience how devastating it is to lose your home" because he had to be "out of the home for seven months" due to a fire.
He's lying (again) — it was a "small fire … contained to the kitchen" and was "under control in 20 minutes." pic.twitter.com/HxReY4i555

This isn’t the first time Biden has tried to relate to those suffering with his trumped-up tales. After the horrific fires in Maui, he attempted to share his own near-catastrophic experience that involved a lightning strike and a series of very fortunate events for him and his lovely 1967 Corvette. One would think that in a room filled with individuals whose lives were turned upside down by nature’s fury, a more sincere approach would be warranted. Instead, he turned their crises into a backdrop for his self-involved narrative.
Biden seems to have mastered the art of steering the conversation back to himself, which would almost be impressive if it weren’t so infuriating. Individuals who lost homes, possessions, and even loved ones were met with the President, likening their plight to his brief inconvenience. His tone-deafness and lack of real empathy serve only to alienate those he purports to support.
Social media erupted with reactions pointing out that Biden’s kitchen repairs are hardly comparable to the losses suffered by hurricane victims. Comments flooded in rebuking Biden’s attempts at relatability, with one user noting that a newly painted kitchen is a far cry from being homeless and destitute. It’s clear that Americans see through the facade and recognize the difference between genuine empathy and a misguided attempt at grandstanding.
In the face of true disaster, Biden chooses to fabricate tales that sound more like a plot from a B-movie than a heartfelt connection. His inability to connect with the struggles of real Americans only solidifies the notion that this president is more interested in keeping the spotlight on himself than in providing real support where it’s needed.
