In a stunning display of logic that only a graduate of an elite university could conjure, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg recently proclaimed that men enjoy greater freedom in a society where abortion is readily available. This is Buttigieg’s latest bid to shift accountability from men to women, making it sound like the ability to terminate a pregnancy is some kind of national liberty, rather than a serious moral issue.
During a Zoom call—the preferred medium of today’s political elite—Buttigieg waxed poetic on the wonders of legalized abortion, especially in the context of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for president. He gleefully touted her focus on freedom and conveniently overlooked the fact that a large portion of the population might view the elimination of potential life as an infringement on freedom. After all, what’s a little nuance among friends? It’s all about convenience, or so Buttigieg would have one believe.

The notion that men are somehow “freer” when they can evade responsibility for their actions is a cynical twist on the concept of freedom. The suggestion that men can now partake in “consequence-free” relationships—think high-fives and fist bumps—while women bear the brunt of the decision is an unfortunate charade that still perpetuates an uneven double standard. Buttigieg’s comments raise eyebrows but also provoke laughter, as they epitomize the absurdity of progressive thinking.
Kamala Harris, known for her stellar track record of solving immigration issues so well that the border situation resembles a comedy act, has now turned her attention to what she calls “abortion rights.” This pivot raises a few questions: Is this the same Kamala Harris whose primary job was to be the “border czar” and who completely flopped at it? Now, with the Supreme Court having turned back the clock on Roe v. Wade, Harris has decided that tackling motherhood is her new calling.
To spice up her pitch for unrestricted access to abortion, the Vice President has declared a “health care crisis,” blaming none other than former President Donald Trump for all the woes of the world. According to her, the inability to access abortion services is so catastrophic that it calls for an emergency response. The irony of a health care crisis being largely self-inflicted isn’t lost here; it’s a classic case of blaming everyone except those making the choices.
As Buttigieg and Harris continue to weave their tangled web of excuses and misguided ideals, one can’t help but ponder what they will come up with next. The desire for personal freedom seems to be morphing into something that inspires the worst kind of irresponsibility among men. It seems that in their world of logic, the progressive elite have found a way to redefine freedom as a ticket to evade all consequences, leaving morality in the dust.
