Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg faced tough questions on CBS Mornings about President Joe Biden’s lack of action on the border crisis. As the president prepared to give his State of the Union address, Buttigieg danced around the issue, refusing to acknowledge the glaring problems at the southern border. When pressed about Biden’s failure to take executive action after a border security bill fell through despite his support, Buttigieg sidestepped, citing the president’s supposed authority and blaming Congress.

Buttigieg conveniently brushed off the fact that President Biden has already unleashed over 90 executive orders, undoing former President Donald Trump’s crucial border policies, including the ill-fated Title 42 restriction on immigration during the pandemic. Despite this, the number of migrants attempting to enter the U.S. has skyrocketed, with over 10 million reportedly entering the country illegally since Biden took office. This represents a staggering surge, unmatched by any previous administration.
In classic political spin, Buttigieg shifted blame to Republicans and Congress, alleging that they thwarted a bipartisan deal on family separation. He insinuated that Republicans are content to perpetuate the border crisis for political gain. However, this deflection cannot excuse President Biden’s lack of meaningful action to address the unfolding disaster. Buttigieg’s deliberate evasion and refusal to acknowledge the severity of the crisis at the border only serve to shield the Biden administration from accountability.
The American people deserve real solutions, not excuses and finger-pointing. It is clear that President Biden’s lax approach to border security is exacerbating the situation, and Buttigieg’s attempts to deflect blame only underscore the administration’s reluctance to confront the issue head-on. As the crisis at the southern border continues to worsen, it is imperative that the Biden administration takes decisive action to protect the country’s borders and uphold the rule of law.
