For a public figure like Buttigieg, details like this adoption scenario resemble more of a TV drama than real-life preparation to raise a family. Buttigieg’s account of receiving a sudden phone call followed by a whirlwind trip to a rural Midwestern hospital might seem touching at first. But beneath the surface lies a troubling reality.
