Rep. Byron Donalds from Florida has stirred the pot by questioning the wisdom behind President Joe Biden’s decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Democratic mega-donor George Soros. Donalds didn’t just point the finger at Biden but suggested that much of the blame lay with the president’s staff and even some family members. One can’t help but wonder if these decisions are actually being made in the Oval Office or perhaps at a family barbecue where political favors take priority over hotdogs.
Soros, alongside 18 others, was bestowed the nation’s highest civilian honor, an interesting move considering it comes just a hair over two weeks before Biden exits the White House. Many Republicans are left scratching their heads at the decrepit logic behind this choice, with Donalds labeling it as “crazy” and pointing out that Soros occupies a prominent position on the far left of the political spectrum. It seems that rewarding partisan allies at the tail end of a presidency has become the new norm for the Biden administration, sending a not-so-subtle signal that loyalty trumps merit.

In a colorful commentary on Fox News, Donalds emphasized the uncertainty surrounding Biden’s cognitive abilities on a daily basis. The congressman remarked that trying to discern the president’s thoughts might be more challenging than navigating a corn maze on blindfold day. This sobering assessment of Biden’s mental acuity raises eyebrows and begs the question: who is really in charge? If his staff and family run the show, it’s hard not to feel a tad insecure about the future of the country under their “guidance.”
It’s no surprise that this ongoing saga would attract criticism from other prominent Republicans, such as former presidential candidate Nikki Haley. She echoed Donalds’ sentiments by branding the honor bestowed on Soros as—get ready for it—“another slap in the face of America.” One could only imagine the collective groans from conservatives as Biden secures his legacy by handing out honors like candy, all while Hunter Biden’s recent pardon adds fuel to the fire of incredulity.
As if awarding a man who has funded movements like Black Lives Matter isn’t enough of a head-scratcher, the fact that Hillary Clinton also received a Medal of Freedom in the same breath raises the stakes even higher. It’s becoming increasingly evident that the last gasps of the Biden administration are less about serving the American people and more about catering to a political elite comfortably nestled in their echo chamber. The countdown to January 20, when President-elect Donald Trump takes the helm again, is an eager anticipation for many who are fed up with these upside-down values.
