California’s Train Dream Derailed and Trump Steps In to Save Billions

California’s high-speed rail dream is dead, and no one should be surprised. Like the Titanic, this was a symbol of hubris, trumpeted as the future but now sunk before it even set sail. Launched in 2008, this train was supposed to be a marvel of clean energy and speed, gliding from San Francisco to Los Angeles at 220 miles per hour. Instead, it’s nothing more than a taxpayer-funded hole in the ground.

President Trump, with his usual no-nonsense approach, finally had the sense to pull the plug on this disaster. Washington is done footing the bill for the California dream that’s turned into a nightmare. Whether the liberal elites out West wanted to admit it or not, the writing’s been on the wall for years: this train isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Governor Gavin Newsom wanted this to be his legacy, his own Robert Moses moment, yet all he’s delivered is a mountain of debt. Newsom scaled the project back, trying to save face with a “proof of concept” in the Central Valley. But let’s call it what it is—a monument to arrogance and wasteful spending. Meanwhile, California’s residents are left asking where those billions went.

The Democrats’ promises of infrastructure greatness turn to dust when faced with harsh reality. They mocked Trump’s wall while their own train languished in shambles. California’s project was endlessly mired in red tape, lawsuits, and environmental reviews, more concerned with appearances than results. If this was built by a private company, it might have been finished on time and under budget. But instead, it was placed in the hands of bureaucracy, which specializes in delay and incompetence.

California wanted a shiny, new train as a testament to progress. Instead, they delivered a cautionary tale. No one’s riding this train, and no one knows when—or if—they ever will. Thank goodness Trump had the sense to stop the waste. The message is clear: bold ideas don’t excuse failure. It’s time California pays for its own experiments. Why should the rest of us bankroll their boondoggle?
