Chicago Mayor Betrays Israel, Ignores City’s Crime Wave

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a self-proclaimed “progressive,” showed his true colors by casting a tie-breaking vote to approve a resolution condemning Israel and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. This move highlights just how far the Democrat Party has turned against Israel. The city council tied on its vote, with 23 in favor and 23 against, but Johnson swooped in to tip the scales in favor of the attack on Israel.

The resolution itself holds no real legal weight and is purely symbolic, yet it serves as a startling example of the Democrat Party’s antipathy toward Israel. Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez expressed support for the resolution, claiming it matters to Chicago and the world. However, Alderman Ray Lopez rightly opposed the measure, criticizing the council for overstepping its bounds in international affairs.

The Israeli Consulate condemned the city council’s vote, underscoring that it undermines the positions of the Biden Administration, the International Court of Justice, and the European Union. The council’s decision to pursue the resolution, despite the opposition of key players involved, reflects a troubling disregard for diplomatic protocols and international consensus.

Meanwhile, while the city council was fixated on its condemnation of Israel, Chicago continues to grapple with a soaring murder rate and a surge in antisemitic incidents. The city saw a slight decrease in homicides in 2023 but still ended the year with a staggering 617 murders and 2,450 shootings, emphasizing the urgent need for action on local crime. Moreover, incidents of antisemitism in Chicago experienced a concerning 22 percent increase, and statewide, a shocking 128 percent rise.
