China’s recent efforts to crack down on the devastating fentanyl trade feel like nothing more than empty promises. As President Xi Jinping supposedly agreed to tackle this issue in exchange for tariff relief from the Trump administration, it’s essential to remember that Beijing has a long history of breaking similar commitments. Just like a magician, they pull the wool over our eyes with fanciful words, but behind the curtain, the game of deceit continues unabated.
Fentanyl has wreaked havoc across America. It’s not just a drug epidemic; it is a public health crisis that demands urgent and effective action. But do we really believe that China, whose government has previously allowed its drug lords to flourish, will suddenly take a stand against its own manufacturing of fentanyl precursors? Past actions tell a troubling story. Previous agreements have met with lip service but little follow-through. Instead of reducing the flow of these precursors to Mexican cartels, evidence shows that China continues to support their production while maintaining the illusion of cooperation.
China’s poor record cracking down on fentanyl trade looms over new trade deal https://t.co/fW30mcmYwE

The Trump administration’s recent trade discussions with China brought back memories of the original “Phase One” trade deal. In that agreement, China promised to increase its purchases of American goods. Instead, they fell short, allowing their anti-American tendencies to outweigh any desire for productive trade relations. Promises made are not promises kept. Once again, the Chinese Communist Party shows its true colors—prioritizing its own interests over American lives.
The Biden administration, believing it can negotiate better terms than its predecessor, is already looking at a failed strategy before it even begins. They try to bring China to the table, but without addressing the direct role of Mexican cartels in the fentanyl crisis, what can we expect? The cartels, realizing the income potential, turn right around and circumvent direct shipments by importing fentanyl precursors from China. The response from the Biden camp is laughably inadequate. More talks will lead us back to the same tragic outcome: more deaths and more dependency on foreign powers.
The stakes have never been higher, and American lives hang in the balance. The time for empty words and ineffective negotiations is over. It’s time for leaders to demand real action. If Xi Jinping truly believes in cooperation, then he needs to prove it with results, not platitudes. We cannot sit idly by and allow a foreign power, a known adversary, to dictate how we combat this crisis on our shores.
If history teaches us anything, it’s that China cannot be trusted. We need strong leaders who will stand firm against the hypocrisy of the Chinese Communist Party. The American people deserve better than repeated cycles of deception and heartache. Where is the accountability? When will we start holding China responsible for its role in the fentanyl crisis? The deadly game of push-and-pull has gone on too long. It’s time for America to demand action, not just a seat at the negotiation table, but a guarantee that we won’t fall victim to China’s ploys yet again.
