Several liberal news organizations such as CNN have been fact-checking a statement made by former President Donald Trump concerning a recent decision in the hush-money trial overseen by Judge Juan Merchan. It is essential to note that the fact-check itself has faced criticism, showcasing a biased narrative against Trump.
The case involves Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s allegations against Trump for reportedly misleadingly handling a payment to an adult film star to conceal an alleged affair. Trump refutes these accusations and claims that Bragg, with the support of Judge Merchan, is engaging in election interference. Many legal experts, regardless of their political leanings, find merit in Trump’s claims.
In a social media post, Trump asserted that Judge Merchan hindered a key witness, campaign finance expert Bradley A. Smith, from testifying on his behalf. Smith’s testimony could have potentially favored Trump’s defense, but according to Trump, Judge Merchan prevented it. While CNN and other leftist platforms dispute Trump’s statement, a closer examination reveals a different perspective.
Judge Merchan did allow Smith to testify; however, he restricted the scope of his testimony. Smith was not permitted to address the core issue of whether the payment to Stormy Daniels constituted a campaign contribution, a topic critical to the case. By limiting Smith’s testimony, Judge Merchan essentially prevented him from providing any valuable insights on the matter.
It is crucial to recognize the biased reporting from CNN and similar outlets, which downplay Judge Merchan’s actions and disregard the potential impact on Trump’s defense. This case underscores the importance of fair and impartial legal proceedings, without political interference.
