Washington, D.C. has a serious crime problem, but don’t worry, Congress is here to help! The district, which boasts some of the strictest gun laws in the country, is now issuing tips to residents on how to stay safe from violent criminals. It’s almost like they’re admitting that their gun control measures aren’t actually working.
House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) is warning visitors to be cautious when coming to the nation’s capital. Homicides are up 28% compared to last year, while robberies have skyrocketed by 67%. Residents are so afraid, they won’t even leave their homes for short distances. It’s like the district has turned into a real-life horror movie.
To combat the crime wave, the Mexican consulate in D.C. has warned its citizens and tourists to take precautions. Tips include not wearing expensive jewelry on public transportation and not leaving any valuables visible in parked cars. Because apparently, criminals in D.C. have been going on a diamond-stealing spree.
But why should residents have to rely on these tips when they could be empowered to defend themselves? Unfortunately, the district denies people the right to carry firearms. Sure, there was a court case in 2008 that recognized the right to possess firearms, but the district has put so many absurd regulations in place that it’s nearly impossible for regular folks to get a concealed carry permit.

The anti-gun crowd will argue that these regulations are necessary to reduce crime. But the reality is, when law-abiding citizens are disarmed, they become easy targets for criminals. And boy, are criminals taking advantage of the situation. Over 5,000 cars have been stolen in the district this year, with about 700 of those being violent carjackings. It’s like a scene out of a Fast and Furious movie, except without the cool cars and Vin Diesel.
In an interview, Chairman Steil expressed the gravity of the situation. He mentioned that crime in D.C. isn’t just limited to carjackings and car thefts; it extends to assault, burglary, robbery, and even murder. It’s clear that the district is under siege by violent criminals, and unarmed residents are caught in the crossfire.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem like the situation will improve anytime soon. So for now, residents should just follow these tips and hope for the best. But wouldn’t it be nice if they could exercise their constitutional right to bear arms and actually defend themselves? Just a thought.
