In a surprising turn of events, New Mexico’s Democrat Attorney General Raúl Torrez has openly criticized Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s recent gun control measures. Torrez, a fellow Democrat, expressed his concerns about the constitutionality of the measures in a detailed letter that was as sharp as a cactus needle.
Torrez argues that while he acknowledges the need to address gun violence, the Governor’s approach to classify it as a “public health emergency” is a stretch. It’s as if she’s trying to squeeze a cow into a teacup! Torrez believes that rather than trampling on the rights of law-abiding citizens, the Governor should focus on implementing a comprehensive legislative response to tackle the issue. It’s like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut – overkill!
But let’s take a step back and see what these gun control measures really entail. The Public Health Emergency Order, initiated by the Secretary of Health, restricts the possession of firearms in public. Can you imagine? People won’t be allowed to carry firearms for self-defense! It’s like being forced to go swimming with sharks without a life jacket – downright dangerous!
Governor Lujan Grisham’s order even suspended citizens’ right to carry in the state’s largest county for an entire month. Now that’s what I call an overreaction! We all mourn the tragic losses of innocent lives, especially children, to gun violence, but infringing on the rights of responsible gun owners is not the answer. It’s like blaming all hamsters for a few bad apples – it just doesn’t make sense!

Thankfully, Attorney General Torrez is standing up against this infringement on Second Amendment rights. He refuses to defend the administration against any lawsuits challenging the Emergency Order because he believes it doesn’t pass constitutional muster. Bravo, Torrez! It’s about time someone stood up for the rights of law-abiding citizens instead of pandering to the anti-gun crowd.
It’s no surprise that other law enforcement officials, like Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman and Sheriff John Allen, are also hesitant to enforce the Governor’s mandate. They understand that citizens have a constitutional right to defend themselves. It’s like they see through the smoke and mirrors of the Governor’s agenda!
In fact, the National Association for Gun Rights and a brave member named Foster Haines have already filed a lawsuit against these egregious measures. It’s reassuring to see that there are still warriors fighting for individual liberties in the face of overreaching government control.
Ultimately, it’s clear that Governor Grisham’s gun control measures are a deeply divisive issue in New Mexico. It’s high time she reevaluated her approach and listened to the concerns of Attorney General Torrez, law enforcement officials, and the many citizens who believe in the importance of their constitutional rights. Otherwise, she might find herself facing impeachment. And believe me, that would be a much-needed remedy for the dire situation she has created.
