In the ever-turning carousel of political absurdities, Jasmine Crockett stands out as a particularly glaring example. It’s baffling that someone who can so blatantly flout the basic use of English can serve in the United States Congress. Yet, here we are, with Crockett becoming the poster child for what’s increasingly wrong in American politics. This, my friends, is a clear illustration of how low our standards have fallen when it comes to electing our representatives.
To hear Crockett speak is to be transported into a world where coherence and intellect are in short supply. It feels as though she’s on a mission to leave us questioning the very language we speak. Her statements bemuse and baffle, leaving one to wonder if she has taken up headbanging as a nightly pastime rather than engaging in any form of intellectual reflection. The comparison to Joe Biden has unfortunately become less of a rhetorical device and more of an apt reality, as she appears to lose brain cells at a similar alarming pace.
Moreover, Crockett’s political career is a testament to the alarming trend of diminishing expectations in public office. Here we see a person whose qualifications seem to rely more on baffling incompetence than on the traditional values of hard work and clear thought. Each day she steps into Congress, it feels less like a legislative session and more like a daily January 6th against common sense. English is indeed a language with rules and structure, but Crockett’s grasp of it suggests she’s more fluent in a dialect known only to her.
The real tragedy here is what Crockett’s tenure says about the electorate. If voters willingly put someone of her caliber in office, doesn’t it tell us more about the voters than the person elected? Allowing anyone who doesn’t grasp the basics of the job they’re elected to perform only drags our democratic system into the mud. It’s clear we have a systemic issue if individuals like Crockett continue to win seats. It’s time to think seriously about who gets the privilege to vote because the current system clearly isn’t serving the country’s best interest.
Traditionally, voting was meant for informed citizens who could think critically about their choices and the future of their country. Now, however, the voting booth is open to everyone, regardless of their understanding of the issues or ability to articulate their choices. This shift in principles has resulted not only in public figures like Crockett but in a political landscape littered with individuals who might better serve as comedic relief than lawmakers. It’s time to draw a line and enforce some standards so that the halls of Congress reflect the dignity and respect they deserve.
