Democrat candidate Lowell Simon, who also heads the Moore County Democrat Party, recently gave a master class in how to earn yourself a trip downtown. While one might expect a political leader to embody the essence of civility and respect for the democratic process, Simon apparently thought that taking matters into his own hands—specifically, removing Trump campaign signs—would score him some extra brownie points. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
On October 10, 2024, Simon was caught red-handed by a sheriff’s deputy who was on an unrelated call, though not exactly on a secret mission under the cover of darkness. If only he had that kind of cunning, perhaps he wouldn’t have ended up in this predicament. Instead, Simon was brazenly removing the signs while the sun was still high and mighty at 5:25 in the afternoon. One can only assume he thought it was some sort of community gardening project, albeit a rather misguided one.

Upon visiting Simon’s humble abode post-incident, the deputy discovered the bonanza of political sign snatching in the back of Simon’s vehicle. He promptly confessed to his transgressions, stating he simply could not resist the temptation. If Simon had put as much effort into promoting his own campaign as he did into vandalizing the competition, he might have found himself on a much different trajectory—preferably one without handcuffs.
Naturally, the sheriff’s office didn’t let this crime against democracy slide. Simon racked up two misdemeanor charges for larceny, proving yet again that Democrats might not just steal elections; they might get a little too handsy with the campaign signs, too. Simon was issued a warrant and released with a simple promise to show up in court on October 30, 2024. It seems that even in the Democrat Party, accountability—at least when it comes to their own—is not optional.
Simon, in a moment of short-lived wisdom, recognized that laws apply to everyone. This epiphany begs the question: does he feel the same way when it comes to the constant removal and theft of Democrat signs? If the law is indeed supposed to apply evenly, then perhaps Simon should lead by example, starting with an apology to Trump supporters—assuming he isn’t too busy plotting his next misadventure in political sign hijinks.
