Four House Democrats recently embarked on a self-proclaimed mission to El Salvador, and what a spectacle it turned out to be. They stormed into the country with the misguided notion that they could somehow pressure the Salvadoran government into releasing Kilmar Abrego Garcia. It was a political stunt that ended as quickly and pathetically as it began. These Democrats, while perhaps well-intentioned, failed to do any meaningful groundwork. They hit a bureaucratic wall when they were denied access because their trip wasn’t official. It’s almost amusing how they expected to wield influence they simply don’t possess.
The refusal to meet with them was not a surprise. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer had the foresight to cut off taxpayer funding for this shallow spectacle. The decision further illustrates the stagnant thinking of Democrats who believe that American intervention is the solution to every problem in the world. As if we needed more evidence, these Democrats left El Salvador just as empty-handed as when they arrived.
This ill-conceived adventure shows how out-of-touch Democrats are with international diplomacy and reality itself. They promptly scurried back home with tales of their failure, blaming the Trump administration for their embarrassment. It’s almost as if they cannot imagine a world where their liberal agendas are not welcomed with open arms.

The icing on this ridiculous cake was the reaction from El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele. With the sharp wit expected from a leader unafraid to challenge globalist narratives, Bukele used social media to mock the Democrats, showing once again the chink in their political armor. Their misguided use of social platforms was highlighted further when old posts came back to haunt them, exposing the desperate and disconnected nature of their strategy.
What this fiasco really shows is a party willing to travel across international lines to fail at a mission they couldn’t accomplish at home. Maybe next time these Democrats should focus on issues that truly matter to Americans, here in our own country, instead of venturing abroad on an embarrassing escapade. Or maybe, just maybe, they should spend a little less time chasing globalist fantasies and a little more time realizing they’ve lost touch with the people they claim to serve.
