Democrats Expand Targets in GOP Territories for 2024 Election

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has recently disclosed their intention to target an additional five Republican-held seats in the 2024 election. Key battleground states and neutral seats are among the targets, with the objective of potentially changing the majority this November.

Candidates Ashley Ehasz, Janelle Stelson, Peter Barca, Shomari Figures, and Kristen McDonald Rivet are the most recent additions to the committee's "Red to Blue" program. Figures is attempting to secure a victory in Alabama's newly drawn district, while Ehasz, Stelson, and Barca are vying to unseat Republican incumbents. McDonald Rivet is seeking to succeed an outgoing Democratic member.

The "Red to Blue" program offers candidates strategic guidance, staff resources and training, and fundraising assistance. In the past, candidates in this program have achieved success in competitive general elections.

Ehasz, a combat veteran of the United States Army, is a candidate for the 1st Congressional District in Pennsylvania, which is presently held by Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick. Stelson, a broadcast journalist, is endeavoring to unseat Rep. Scott Perry in Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District. Barca, a former minority leader in the Wisconsin State Assembly, is opposing Rep. Bryan Steil in the 1st District of Wisconsin.

In addition to its concentration on Republican incumbents, the DCCC is also targeting open seats. Shomari Figures emerged victorious in a runoff to secure the Democratic nomination for Alabama's 2nd District. She is currently engaged in a campaign against a Republican opponent in the general election. Kristen McDonald Rivet is vying to succeed the retiring Representative Dan Kildee in Michigan's 8th Congressional District.

DCCC Chairwoman Suzan DelBene expressed her enthusiasm for the new candidates who have joined the program and underscored their commitment to representing their districts. She underscored the significance of collaborating with these candidates to bolster Democratic endeavors to regain the majority in the forthcoming election.
