The aftermath of January 6 continues to be a hot topic, but it seems some folks can’t get past the hypocrisy displayed by the Democratic Party. While it’s consistently reiterated that the Capitol riot was an embarrassment, analyses often fail to mention how many on the left were busy rewriting history, especially after their precious 2020 election.
It has become clear that many Trump supporters might have downplayed the riot—not necessarily because they condone the events of that day, but due to the sheer audacity of Democrats who simultaneously demonize their opponents while conveniently overlooking their own pasts. Take Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic leader. His recent jab, claiming that there were no “election deniers” on his side, was met with applause as if he had just delivered a Shakespearean monologue instead of the absurdity it truly was. The glaring irony, of course, is that Jeffries was more than willing to express his own election-doubting sentiments back when Trump won in 2016. With this sort of selective memory, he seemingly expects voters to forget that he, too, played the “denier” card when it suited him.
Joe Biden’s recent honors for Congressman Bennie Thompson—an architect of the January 6 investigation—serves as another amusing example of political theater. Thompson’s dedication to “protecting democracy” is hard to reconcile with his history of refusing to recognize George W. Bush’s election victory in 2004. Yet here he is, parading his virtues while wrapping himself in fabrications of righteousness. The irony of this honor directly from the presidency is enough to make any reasonable American raise an eyebrow.
The so-called “do no wrong” image cultivated by Democrats in their quest to claim moral superiority inevitably falters under scrutiny. For instance, during the latest electoral certification, not a single Democrat objected. One might wonder what changed since they had no qualms about raising a ruckus during Trump’s ascension. This act of compliance could easily be interpreted as a tactical decision, leading everyone to believe that Democrats now uphold election results. Evidence suggests otherwise; their track record demonstrates a far more chaotic attitude toward electoral legitimacy.

The same party that organized boycotts of Trump’s inauguration in 2017 has somehow morphed into the vanguard of “respecting the election process.” With over a third of Democrats questioning Trump’s legitimacy in 2017, the question now looms: do they still hold those beliefs, or has selective amnesia set in? It appears the answer lies in their actions—or lack thereof—as they continue to portray the narrative where only the other side makes waves in the electoral pond.
With polling showing a significant number of Americans critical of Trump regarding post-election turmoil, his ability to capture the 2024 election signals a hefty frustration with the Democratic narrative. As they double down on their talking points and moral high ground, Americans are left shaking their heads, wondering when the left will take a good, long look in the mirror and account for their own past indiscretions.
