If liberals were really serious about protecting democracy, they’d be demanding the same thing that most Americans support: requiring proof of citizenship to vote. But instead, the left is clutching their pearls, screaming “voter suppression” every time someone points out the simplest of truths—you need to be a citizen to vote in American elections. For people who never stop lecturing us about threats to democracy, they sure seem desperate to let just anyone cast a ballot, whether they’re a legal voter or not.
Hakeem Jeffries, the Democrat leader in the House, tried to make it sound like asking for citizenship is somehow evil. He’d rather let states run elections however they see fit—so long as those states keep the door wide open for abuse. Every time a Republican asks for something as basic as showing you belong in this country before voting, the usual radicals start accusing them of disenfranchisement. Strange, since every major poll shows regular Americans—including many Democrats—think voter ID and proof of citizenship are just common sense.

And talk about hypocrisy. When Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff held an event in Atlanta, everyone had to pull out a government ID just to attend. So a photo ID is mandatory to step inside a Democrat town hall, but not to decide the fate of our nation at the ballot box? Liberals act like getting an ID is some impossible task—like Americans are lost in the wilderness with no Kinkos or OfficeMax for a hundred miles. These out-of-touch elites have no problem requiring IDs when it suits their purposes, but throw a tantrum at the thought of strengthening election security.
Even some Democrats get it right, acknowledging that voter ID is just plain common sense. There’s nothing extreme about asking someone to prove who they are, or that they are, in fact, an American citizen. But for the loudest voices on the left, it’s easier to play the victim and cry racism than to actually make elections trustworthy for everyone.
President Trump called out the rigged nature of our current system and demanded exactly what most Americans want—real voter ID, citizenship checks, and tighter rules for mail-in ballots. The only people threatened by election integrity are those who benefit from chaos and confusion. Why are Democrats so terrified of fair elections? Maybe because they know their radical agenda can’t win unless the rules are loose enough for fraud to sneak in.
It’s simple: No ID, no citizenship, no vote. Only a fool—or someone with something to hide—would argue against that.
