Democrats Panic as Biden Clings to Candidacy Amid Calls to Withdraw

Democrats are in full-blown crisis mode with President Joe Biden as their candidate this fall. After his first debate against the presumptive Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, Biden’s performance left much to be desired. The man looked more coherent when reading a teleprompter! Naturally, this blunder sent the left-wing media and Democratic loyalists into a tailspin resembling a rodeo in its final chaotic moments.

The reality is stark: unless a miracle of biblical proportions occurs, the 81-year-old Biden is set to receive a political shellacking come November, courtesy of Trump—a man the Democrats despise so intensely they probably have dartboards of his face. This reality has led to whispers turning into full-throated shouts within Democratic circles for Biden to withdraw from the race.

Despite the mounting calls, Biden is clinging to his candidacy with the stubbornness of a mule in a cornfield, insisting he won’t bow out. But even his usual cadre of defenders are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up appearances.

During a recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the 84-year-old matriarch of the Democratic Party, gave a telling response when asked about Biden’s campaign woes. She could have denied Biden’s obvious cognitive decline outright. She could have danced around the question like politicians are trained to do from diaper days. Instead, she hedged, suggesting the president still had to make a decision—a decision anyone with an ounce of common sense knows Biden has already made.

Pelosi’s comments didn’t reflect unwavering support but rather tepid encouragement, implying time is running short. It seems she and her Democratic cohorts are subtly signaling that Biden should, perhaps, reconsider his intention to stay in the race. This mixed messaging comes after Biden’s recent memo to House Democrats, loudly proclaiming his determination to stick it out till the bitter end.

In her oh-so-clever way, Pelosi might just have been throwing Biden under the bus with her public musings. Some think she’s giving Democratic lawmakers the green light to tell Biden to take a final bow and exit stage left. Pelosi’s soft suggestion could be seen as a strategic maneuver, giving a nod to Biden’s most loyal followers while subtly hinting to everyone else that it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if he stepped down.

This fiasco leaves the Democratic leadership in a bind. They want Biden to step aside, fearing that if he stubbornly stays in, his electoral battles against Trump will be more like a prelude to a massacre than a fair fight. Until Biden makes an explicit move, expect this dithering and wishy-washy messaging from the Democrats to continue. They’ll be dancing around the issue like an awkward teenager at prom until Biden either pull the plug on his campaign, or it’s too late to change horses mid-stream.
