Democrats Scramble as Harris Struggles in Polls Against Trump

With just a few weeks left before the upcoming election, Vice President Kamala Harris finds herself in a pickle. The polls are showing her struggling to gain traction against former President Donald Trump, and in a rather desperate move, her fellow Democrats are being rounded up to help. Even Barack Obama, despite his past attempts to charm black voters with condescending remarks, has been sent to the campaign trail to support Harris. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden, who reportedly has a chilly relationship with Harris’ crew, is also getting dragged into the mix.

Biden recently strolled into Pennsylvania to show support, but his attempts at quipping about Trump fell flat. He claimed Harris handed Trump a “beating” in their debate, asserting that he is now “scared” to face her again. Perhaps Biden should take a look in the mirror before attempting to critique anyone on their debate performance. His own stint against Trump ended with him getting pressured to withdraw from the race after a dismal showing—yet here he is, boldly suggesting Harris is ready to square off again.

In a particularly awkward moment, Biden called out Trump for an incident at a rally where medical emergencies arose. He jabbed at Trump for “dancing” on stage for too long. It’s almost as if the Biden administration hired a comedy writer for their press statements. Considering Biden’s propensity for confusion and lack of coherence during public appearances, it’s rich for him to lecture anyone about being “unhinged.”

Biden’s gaffes don’t just stop at awkward word choices; they also encompass a complete misreading of the political landscape. The administration’s failure to answer for shortcomings, particularly in crisis management (thanks a lot, Hurricane Helene and Milton), is telling. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre couldn’t even cobble together a coherent defense of Harris’s record, offering vague platitudes about their “loyal camaraderie.”

While Harris scrambles to maintain her footing against Trump—who’s currently edging out a lead in battleground states—the insistence on bringing Biden into her campaign appears as a sign of desperation rather than a strategic maneuver. Even internal rifts within the Biden-Harris camp are reportedly so contentious that “tensions” have been openly discussed, hinting at the lack of unity that permeates their efforts.

Harris has the power to invoke the 25th Amendment if Biden’s odd behavior becomes too alarming, but she has chosen not to act. The Democrats have flashed this constitutional threat as a potential stick against Biden in the past, but as the election nears, it seems they might prefer to stick with him, however unsteady he may seem. The juxtaposition of a party struggling to find its footing while pointing fingers at their opponents is a spectacle that not only highlights their vulnerabilities but also feeds the narrative that the Democratic leadership is decidedly out of touch with the electorate. With Harris barely eking out a lead against Trump nationally, the election dynamics are sharper and more revealing than ever.
