Democrats Unveil 2024 Platform in Chicago Omitting Kamala from Mentions

In a shocking development that reveals just how out of touch the Democratic Party can be, the Democrats rolled out their 2024 platform at their recent convention in Chicago. This time, they managed to forget to even mention Vice President Kamala Harris’s first name—not once! Instead, she was repeatedly referred to by her last name, resulting in a platform that seems more like a page from a bad sitcom than a serious political document. In a world where naming names might help connect with voters, the Dems chose to go with the cold, detached, surname-only approach.

The absence of Harris’s first name from the 91-page platform is just the tip of the iceberg. The document mentions the “Biden-Harris Administration” a whopping eight times. However, Harris’s first name was left out entirely, as if she’s somehow less relevant to their big plans for the future. If anyone thought being Vice President was a big deal, the Dems might want to reconsider their branding strategy. After all, across nearly 20 mentions of Biden’s anticipated second term, not a single time does the platform highlight Harris as a potential nominee for the top spot.

The dedication of the platform committee chairs, Mitch Landrieu and Regina Romero, to not even consider an amendment to simply add “Kamala” shows how much the party has its priorities misaligned. A proposal that could have helped to humanize Harris and make her seem more than just a footnote in the Biden saga was dismissed without a moment’s pause. One might think that trying to win voters calls for a finer touch, yet in this twisted logic, names are clearly optional.

Interestingly, Romero did mention that the platform was actually finalized in mid-July, well before Biden’s sudden departure from the race. It’s as if the Democrats are trying to market an outdated product while missing the memo that the merchandise might need updating. Instead of recognizing the shifting landscape, they’ve left Harris holding the bag, or in this case, the torch—whatever that means in terms of leadership potential.

With this platform as their guide, one has to wonder if the Dems think they can skate through the upcoming election by simply ignoring the elephant in the room—sorry, the female Vice President in the room. As they head toward November, a campaign strategy that awkwardly sidesteps acknowledging the second-in-command of the party isn’t just bold; it’s downright baffling. If this is their idea of “carrying the torch,” it may very well turn out to be a dimly lit candle leading them into an electoral dark tunnel.
