The House Majority PAC, a Democratic-leaning organization on a mission to snatch back the House, has decided to throw nearly $6 million into a flashy ad campaign to sway the New York seat of ousted GOP Rep. George Santos. They’re splurging $5.2 million on TV and social media ads, along with another $700,000 on mail ads, all to make sure that New York’s 3rd Congressional District turns blue.
The President of the House Majority PAC, Mike Smith, is all fired up, declaring that they’ll stop at nothing to snatch back that House majority in 2024, and they see NY-03 as their golden opportunity to make it happen. Former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi is eager to reclaim the throne, having held the seat from 2017 to 2023 before giving it up for a shot at governor, which didn’t pan out.

Now, he’s ready to duke it out with Republican nominee Mazi Melesa Pilip, a Nassau County bigwig. The experts can’t make up their minds about who will win, rating the race as a toss-up. This seat went red in 2022, courtesy of Mr. Santos, but the Democrats are salivating at the chance to swipe it back and cement their control over the district that covers parts of Long Island and Queens.
Mr. Santos’ abrupt departure certainly lent a helping hand to the Democrats, who are absolutely giddy at the prospect of reclaiming this fiercely contested turf. The scandal that led to Mr. Santos’ booting from Congress involved allegations of pilfering donors’ IDs and running up fake credit card charges. Both sides of the aisle had to join forces to kick him out, with a whopping 311-114 vote, despite a valiant effort by House Republican leaders to keep him around and stave off a decline in their already razor-thin majority.
Currently, the Republicans are in the lead with 221 seats, while the Democrats trail behind with 213. Looks like the battle for control of the House is heating up, folks. Let the games begin!
