Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis of Florida supported Senator Tommy Tuberville's hold on military promotions and confirmations with courage. He did this to show how strongly he disagreed with the Pentagon's bad policy on abortion. DeSantis promised that if he were elected president, he would immediately get rid of these rules.

During the annual fall banquet of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, DeSantis said with great emotion, "What the Defense Department is doing is against the law. By using tax dollars to pay for abortion tourism, they are breaking the law. I can tell you that as soon as I become president, that program will be thrown away where it belongs." With such a fiery speech, it's clear that DeSantis cares about the sanctity of life and won't let public money be wasted.
Senator Tuberville has been using his power bravely for over six months to stop confirmations of important military positions. The Pentagon's choice, which he thinks is wrong, to pay for service members' travel across state lines to get reproductive health care, such as abortions, is what bothers him. This strategy not only disregards the rights of the unborn, but it also goes against the values that many conservatives hold dear.
Some members of the Republican Party have criticized what Tuberville did, but DeSantis is fully on his side. Former Vice President Mike Pence has also spoken out in support of the Senator's protest. He said that the Pentagon could quickly end this war if they stopped undermining states' pro-life laws. It's good to see politicians like DeSantis and Pence stand up for unborn children and the ideals of the American people.
Obviously, not every candidate has this strong desire to protect life. For example, Nikki Haley has criticized Tuberville's acts and said that military families shouldn't be used as political pawns. Even though it's normal for members of the same party to have different ideas, it's sad to see some lawmakers put their own political goals ahead of the well-being of the unborn.
DeSantis said these things at the fall banquet of the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition, where Republican candidates compete for the support of evangelical voters in this key swing state. Along with DeSantis, other well-known people like Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, and Tim Scott were there, which gave the event a huge political impact. Former President Donald Trump, who is sure to have his own plans for the future, was noticeably missing, though.
Governor Ron DeSantis's brave and principled stand on the abortion policy shows that he is a leader who is ready to fight for the values and beliefs of conservatives across the country. By saying he would get rid of these bad rules if he were chosen president, he shows that he cares about protecting the sanctity of life and the rule of law. In these hard times, America needs strong leadership like this.
