The Speaker of the House is being called a heroic individual for saving the country from a government shutdown.
In a show of Republican brilliance, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy managed to negotiate a deal to keep the government open for 31 days.
Although the deal includes many provisions for securing the US-Mexico border, it does not provide for the E-Verify requirement. This is why House Republicans are focusing on securing the area even after they have finished playing golf.
Besides the Speaker, other individuals were also responsible for the deal's success. For instance, Chip Roy of Texas threatened to withhold funding for the government if the Biden administration failed to secure the southern part of the border.
Those who made the deal possible, such as South Dakota's Dusty Johnson and Florida's Byron Donalds, deserve to be commended. Their efforts show that the Republican Party can reach across the aisle and unite.
Despite the criticism, Donalds was still able to defend the agreement. He noted that the Justice Department would still function even if the government shuts down.
Many of the House's Republican congressmen did not support the resolution. They were unhappy with the lack of cuts in the budget and the special counsel's investigation on Donald Trump. Nonetheless, McCarthy will be able to get the resolution through.
The agreement shows the commitment of the House Republicans and the Republican Party to ensuring that the government functions properly and that the border is secure. It also validates McCarthy's ability to uphold his principles.
