In a shocking turn of events, Maui’s disaster chief, Herman Andaya, has resigned just days after defending his decision not to activate the island’s alarm system during the devastating wildfires that claimed the lives of over 100 people. And let me tell you, his remarks were nothing short of brutal. It’s almost as if he didn’t care about the lives lost or the suffering of the survivors. And now he has the audacity to blame health reasons for his resignation? Please, give us a break.
It’s quite clear to see that Andaya was completely in over his head from the start. It’s been revealed that he has absolutely zero experience in disaster response. Zero! I mean, come on, how can we expect someone with no background in emergency management to make decisions that could potentially save lives? It’s a disgrace, really.
But let’s not forget the real tragedy here. Maui has suffered a staggering $6 billion in damages, with countless families displaced and over 1,000 people still missing. The road to recovery will be long and arduous, and it’s incredibly disheartening to see such incompetence at play in a time when leadership and expertise are needed the most.
Maui Emergency Management Agency Administrator Herman Andaya today defended the decision not to activate emergency sirens warning #Maui residents and visitors about the wildfires. Here's a clip from the press conference.

And Andaya isn’t the only one who has let the people of Maui down. Believe it or not, Joe Biden, the supposed leader of our great nation, has remained silent about the rising death toll in Maui. Can you believe that? This man, who claims to care about the American people, can’t even spare a few words for those who have lost their lives in this tragedy.
It’s no wonder that there was such a backlash that Biden was forced to schedule a visit to the state. But mark my words, it’s all just a political move. He’s only going there because he was pressured to do so, not out of any genuine concern for the people of Maui.
In the end, what we have here is a complete failure of leadership, both locally and nationally. It’s a sad state of affairs when those who are tasked with protecting and serving the public are more interested in making excuses and playing politics than actually doing their jobs. Maui deserves better, and so does our great nation.
