The Republican presidential primary appears to be encountering a degree of stagnation, causing concern for most of the candidates. Nevertheless, one candidate, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), stands out from the pack. Recent news of his Super PAC reallocating its funds has raised questions about the future of his campaign. The memo disclosed that the PAC is withdrawing from a $40 million ad buy, suggesting potential difficulties for Scott's campaign.
The Super PAC's co-chairman, Rob Collins, explained that they are shifting their focus toward grassroots efforts and door-to-door campaigning, though the details of this strategy remain unclear. Despite this development, Scott's campaign remains resolute and confident in its ability to stay in the race, highlighting their substantial cash on hand and the highest favorability rating among all the candidates.
However, polling numbers do not seem to align with their confidence. Scott currently polls at just 2% in the RealClearPolitics average, presenting immediate challenges for his campaign. To qualify for the next GOP debate, he must reach at least 4% in polling and secure a minimum of 70,000 contributors, making it an uphill battle.
Scott is not the only candidate facing such hurdles. Former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson are all grappling with a lack of traction. If none of them qualify for the debate and former President Donald Trump chooses to skip it, the stage would be left with just three candidates—Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

From a conservative standpoint, it is evident that the Republican primary needs to consolidate around a strong alternative to Trump if they hope to challenge his dominance. Tough decisions will need to be made before the end of the year.
Currently, the remaining candidates are embroiled in discussions about who should emerge as the primary alternative to Trump. DeSantis is maintaining a strong second place but has faced a decrease in support. Meanwhile, Haley has recently experienced a surge in popularity, thanks in part to her rivalry with Ramaswamy and an escalating conflict with DeSantis. The upcoming debate on November 8th could be a pivotal moment in determining who will carry the non-Trump flag into the 2024 election.
