In a world overflowing with entitlement, President Trump has made it clear that Europe’s freeloading days are over. For too long, America has carried the weight of the entire global order. This latest national security strategy tells Europe to stand up or stand down. The world isn’t an American charity case anymore, and it’s time other nations stopped mooching off of our hard work and sacrifices.
The document strains verbosity to state the obvious: America doesn’t need to babysit Europe’s wealthy, sophisticated nations. These countries have coasted on the comfort of Uncle Sam’s benevolence while failing to uphold their own responsibilities. It’s about time European nations understand the importance of self-reliance. They’ve been taking advantage of American generosity, and this can no longer continue.
