Senator John Fetterman, the Democratic maverick from Pennsylvania, decided to double down on his unwavering support for President Joe Biden and his ongoing reelection campaign. Apparently, the senator is befuddled by the division and panic within his own party regarding Biden’s bid for a second term. Like a general in denial of a mutiny on board, Fetterman doesn’t seem to grasp why even Biden’s closest allies are starting to see the writing on the wall.
Ever since the first presidential debate unleashed a torrent of doubts, calls for Biden to gracefully exit stage left have grown like weeds in a forgotten garden. Celebrities, lawmakers, and even Hollywood’s elite like George Clooney have chimed in, urging Biden to consider retirement. But Fetterman, clutching his loyalty card, questions how these calls are helping anyone—Biden, the Democrats, or the country.

On ABC’s “The View,” Fetterman metaphorically scratched his head, wondering how Republicans manage to rally around their leader despite his legal woes, while Democrats scatter at the first sign of turbulence. In yet another attempt to rally the Democratic troops, he compared them to soldiers in a foxhole—because nothing soothes political infighting quite like war analogies. Never mind that panicking in a foxhole can be the difference between life and death; the senator thinks it’s a lesson Democrats should heed.
Then there’s the nostalgia card. Fetterman trotted out Biden’s past victory over Trump, urging his party to hold the line. After all, it’s easier to cling to past glory than to face the grim reality of a recent debate debacle. He even took a swipe at Nancy Pelosi for daring to hint that Biden might not stay in the race. According to Fetterman, unless you’ve run for president, your opinion doesn’t count— an interesting stance for someone who hasn’t either.
Concerning the debate, Fetterman took a page from revisionist history, reminding everyone that Hillary Clinton technically “won” her debates against Trump but still lost the election. He argued that a bad night on stage doesn’t matter. He urged Democrats to step outside their echo chamber and understand that “real Democrats” are still fervently waving Biden flags, ignoring the growing concern over elective senility.
Despite the growing chorus calling for Biden to step aside gracefully, Fetterman and his ilk remain steadfast. They’re even criticizing celebrities like Clooney for daring to suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, the long list of concerned voices, including several urging Biden to take a cognitive test for mental fitness, grows longer.
In the opposite corner, solid as ever, the Republicans are gearing up for their convention, where the former president will likely secure the GOP nomination. Gov. Ron DeSantis, once a rival, will stand among the speakers, showcasing the unity and determination that seems to elude the Democratic camp. While Democrats wrestle with their internal strife, the GOP appears ready to barrel ahead—disruptions be damned.
