A recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll indicates that former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in Georgia. According to the poll, Trump has secured 45% of the vote, while Biden holds 37%. Biden's lackluster performance in this state, particularly among minority voters (ten percent of Black Georgians have declared their intend to abstain entirely), is unsurprising. Ouch!

However, Biden's poor fortune does not end there. Furthermore, a significant majority of 62% of Georgia voters firmly disapprove of Biden's job performance, which is in addition to his lagging numbers. Even among independents, Biden's performance is failing, with 54% expressing disapproval. Black voters, who constitute nearly half of newly registered Georgia voters, are also divided in their Biden support.
Additionally, Trump is not navigating smoothly, as discord exists within his own party. Amidst his dispute with Republican Governor Brian Kemp and other statewide Republicans concerning the 2020 election results, one in every five Republican poll respondents is now uncertain as to whether or not they will support Trump in November. Trump must urgently mobilize his support base in Georgia.
Nevertheless, a ray of optimism remains for Trump due to his ongoing dominance in the Republican nomination process. In light of the withdrawals of prominent Republican figures such as Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson, the moderate faction of the party is uniting in support of Nikki Haley, who must deliver a strong performance to remain competitive in the upcoming New Hampshire race.
As establishment Republicans begin to lend their support to Trump, Governor Kemp and other Republicans in Georgia are under increasing pressure to do the same. A majority of the state's Republican congressional delegation, led by the outspoken Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones have already expressed their support for Trump. Furthermore, in the event that the governor emerges as the nominee, they have pledged to provide assistance to him. The pressure appears to be mounting on the Georgia Republicans to conform to party standards.
